Book Giveaway and Dahlias.

Let me refresh your memory.  Really Good Peanut Butter Cookies from Allergy Free Cook Bakes Cakes and Cookies.
Hey!  The good folks at Book Publishing Company have offered a free copy of Laurie Sadowski's most recent Allergy Free Cook Bakes Cakes and Cookies to one of my fine readers. Yep, that's the one I just reviewed. Who wants a nice Summer Yummer, huh?

The giveway is open to US and Canadian addresses. To win your own copy, simply post a comment by midnight Pacific time on Friday August 30th, 2013 (please make sure to leave some sort of way I can get in touch with you along with your comment), and I will draw a random winner.

Now, you luckies,  I'm gonna show you some of the amazing dahlias blooming in our backyard.

This is some kind of small ball dahlia, instead of a flat bottom, it's a poofy sphere..  I think it looks like a Spirograph.
I really don't know much about dahlias, but I've been picking up some info online and here 'n' there.  All of ours were gifts from friends who were dividing their bulbs, except for one giant plant I purchased for my birthday last year from a cute elderly dude selling from the sidewalk in front of his house.

Pretty even on its way out.
These are on the other side of the kitchen window, so I get to look at them while I cook.

One of my favorites.
This dahlia has been ridiculously prolific all summer, and at this point, is just barely staying upright with the help of an old pair of thick tights. The colors are explosive.  Me like.

Anyone know what this variety is called?
I wasn't in love with this dahlia last year, because it got a mad case of aphids and was sorta gross.  This summer, I've been watering it a bunch more, and it's really healthy and happy.  The bees are bonkers for it, which makes me happy, so it's pretty much won me over.  Even if the flowers aren't as big as my head, like some of the others.

I have a bad habit of sticking dahlias in the ground late in the summer, which is what happened to this dude last year.  I had no idea what sort of flower it was when I stuck it in the ground, so this was a happy surprise. It's done great this year, and next year it'll be even bigger.'

I also have a couple of dahlias that are making huge toddler head sized flowers.  I only have pics of them on my phone, so if you want to see them, go check out my Instagram.

Also, you do know that Vegan MoFo is taking place in September this year, right?
