W.I.P Wed, but on Friday

Here's my Mardi Gras costume update, sorry I'm two days late with it, but in Mardi Gras time, this post is somewhat punctual. When I costume, I usually come up with a loose idea, and then as I start to create it, I get other ideas, so it usually morphs into something a bit different. So now my costume is covered with horses and caterpillars, which is somewhat profound if you consider my history with the buggers, and the fact this is probably my last Mardi Gras as a New Orleans resident. Also, I'm making dazee an outfit that is a bit matchy-matchy, except he wants his covered in nutria and, ya' know, more caterpillars.

I'm having fun with this. Yesterday I was starving for lunch, but couldn't really be bothered to stop what I was doing to eat, especially once the glue gun heated up to the perfect temperature (only one bad burn!).

Here's Vee helping to keep one of the caterpillars warm. He's doing quite a job.

Here's the spread I'm wearing: caterpillar and green fur earwarmers, horse shirt (check the shoulders, two caterpillars sit perched up there, one on each side), skirt, legwarmers and then arm warmers with built in caterpillar infested mittens. I cut a slit through the palm of each one to make them convertible [read: able to drink MG beverages easily].

Here's a closeup of one of the dudes perched on my shoulder, this variety does not sting.

  1. Wow! So festive! Hope you get a pic of you in the outfit so we can see!

  2. Kittee, you are so awesome! That's the best Mardi Gras costume ever! I wish I could be there for Mardi Gras. I've only visited New Orleans other times of the year. I'm a little afraid of the crowds, I guess.

  3. kittee!!!
this post really makes me miss you and and dazee and vee so much! this crazy weird and wonderful caterpillars and horses costume is awesome! I made a king cake yesterday, so I was thinking of you!

  4. Your dog is ADORABLE, a labradoodle? Mine is a wheaten terrier mix rescue! ;)

  5. Your costume caterpillers are way better than those stingy things they pay homage to. And I can't wait to see dazee's Nutria outfit, too!

  6. Brilliant! Please post more pictures from Mardi Gras with all your adoring fans admiring your Mighty WIPster-ness :-)

  7. What a perfect costume! I would love to dance around Nola with caterpillars gracing my shoulders! You'll have to let us all know how it goes. I for one will be spending a mostly quiet Mardi Gras at home hosting a dinner party centered around your test recipes. :)

  8. So-so sweet! I love the little shoulder caterpillars!!

  9. Oh My Dog! Kitteeeee! This is so cool. I was explaining to my students here in France how amazing Mardi Gras is in New Orleans - I've never actually been to celebrate in person, but it's so over-the-top-incredible seeming, especially compared to what we do here. I can't wait to see pictures of you in the costume!

  10. Super duper cute! Can't wait to see pics from Mardi Gras! I think I'm going to try your King Cake. Going to bring it to work with me on Tuesday.

p.s. I got the other 2 Papa Tofu's! Thank you so much! :)

  11. Good to see you've overcome your caterpillar issues.

Vee keeping the caterpillars warm is the cutest ever. And the caterpillars themselves are adorable.

Your whole outfit is adorable! Awesome F.I.P!

  12. caterpillars, nutria, and horses, oh my! i love it!
