| Twenty-eight centimeter rice paper wraps are fully stocked and awaiting orders. |
I ran outta my 28 cm rice paper wraps two weeks ago, and have been suffering with salad wrapper blues ever since. I tried three stores, but couldn't remember where I'd picked them up until a cute little Vietnamese shop on Killingsworth sponsored our reunion this afternoon.
Whilst hauling the dog and my purchases into the house, I began dreaming of pho for supper. However, those plans went super-fast down the ol' bean-hole once I remembered what sort of lefties were waiting for me in the fridge.

All rolled together and dipped into a homemade tamarind chutney:
❤ chana masala from 660 Curries.Besides ringing in the new year with a smorgasborg of Indian vittles, I've also been busy finishing up the Levenwick sweater mentioned in my last post. One more sleeve to go, plus buttons and sewing in loose ends and it's all done!
❤ salad tossed in my newest favorite Creamy Tomato Dressing from Vegan Diner
❤ homemade coconut chutney

Happy New Year, Kittee!
ReplyDeleteI just made niter kibbeh and split pea puree today. Finally.. It was in my mind since I got the zine. : )
happy new year to you too!
DeleteLove leftie reinvention but at first, I thought this post was about Southpaws. This is actually way better. And your sweater looks good enough to eat. And since it's vegan, I probably could eat it if I wanted to. Fiber! :)
ReplyDeleteoh, don't eat my sweater please.
Delete1. it's acrylic and thus made of plastic and will give you a big gigantic hair ball.
2. i am cold.

I keep hearing such good things about that Creamy Tomato Dressing from Vegan Diner. I need to try it! Great job on the sweater! It's beautiful.
ReplyDeletethanks, cadry! the dressing is really my new favorite. i made a big batch, but used a bunch of hemp oil instead of canola/olive. tastes so very good.

Why is it that all of your leftovers look better than my original meals? Happy new year!
ReplyDeletehappy new year to you too, abby bean.
DeleteOoh I love the idea of throwing all of your leftovers into a wrap!
ReplyDeleteI've been doing this like mad lately, and I'm in love.
DeleteThese look delicous! And I really love the look of that sweater too. I just finished a sweater too:) Isn't it great to start a new year with a brand new sweater?!
ReplyDeleteohhh, what did you just make? new sweaters are the best.
DeleteOhhh, leftovers strike again! That looks better than pho! I love the giant rice paper wraps (I can only find them at an Asian Marketplace). That sweater is absolutely gorgeous, can't wait to see the finished product. So talented!
ReplyDeletethanks somer! i cannot live without my 28cm'rs. cannot.
DeleteI love the imaginative wraps you make! I've got to find some rice paper wrappers Sooooon.
ReplyDeletethey are game changers for me!
DeleteThe wraps look delish — but the sweater is scrumptious! I love it.
ReplyDeletethanks andrea!
DeleteHappy 2013 Kittee! I'm very envious of your knitting skills. That sweater is super cute.
ReplyDeletethanks nikki! perhaps you will see it in real life one day soon. i just sewed the buttons on and am wearing it now. it's warm!
DeleteI know this tip is kind of old news, but today I made a wrap out of leftover stuff but used a huge collard green leaf to wrap it up. I steamed the leaf before I tried to wrap it up so it clung tightly to the filling. I was kind of awesome. I wonder if you've ever tried it?
ReplyDeleteI love collard wraps, but get annoyed because they are so messy to eat. I was thinking about putting a collard wrap inside a rice paper and then rolling it up. I'll report back!
DeleteI'm a crochet-er who has been taught to knit, but I'm a big baby about starting a knitting project for some reason. Maybe I just haven't found one that's interesting but not to scary. Guess I should rummage around on ravelry, huh? Your sweater is inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI'm making dressed po'boys from papa tofu this week. They are so yummy and sloppy. Do you make any kind of po' boy now that you're gluten free? My family loves your recipes so much that we will have a moment of silence for you if you miss them!
And lastly in your wrap, what is the thing that is white in the middle surrounded by pink?
hi becky!
Deletecome friend me on ravelry! i hope you find something to inspire your knitting there.
i haven't had a po boy in a loooooong time, tho i often think of making a po' boy salad or something. that recipe is from my good bub dave cash in NOLA, and i am so glad to hear how much y'all like it. i bet it would be really good with soy curls, too--if you have them where you live.
ha ha, i was wondering if anyone would ask about that. it's leftover salad, which can be gross, but this batch was not overdressed so it's still good. the white thing is an apple that got stained on the outside by grated beets!

I'm the only one who will eat leftover salad at my house. I thought it was some exotic Japanese pickle.
DeleteI friended you on ravelry. :)
japanese pickle with chana masala in a salad wrap might qualify as fusion. whoa.
DeleteYour comment about fusion made me laugh. I think arbitrary boundaries with cuisine are goofy, but the couple of want-to-be zagat rated fusion places I've eaten at ... have left me longing for the hardcore died-in-the-wool, fear the hygenic situation in the bathroom ethnic restaurants!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust finishing a bowl of garlic, pasta and your caponata - a major new staple around our house. Delicious! Happy new year. -tabby
happy new year to you too! try wrapping that up in a big rice paper and report back...
