I've been knitting myself into a froth lately and quite enjoying it.
You might remember I wrote recently about making Gudrun Johnston's
Levenwick along with my best bub, Cynthia? Not only did I finish this in record time, but I love it! What a super well written and easy to follow pattern this turned out to be.
The yarn seems to be holding up OK for a vintage acrylic and the fit is pretty great. I wish this was a little longer, but I say that about every sweater I make. Somehow now matter what, I always end up a few inches short. I'm gonna be super careful about laundering this one and hopefully it won't end up in the dryer like so many of them have.

| One day soon, I'll tell you the story about my gigantic vintage yarn stash. |
Knitting sweaters can be such a crap-shoot, because even when you
carefully try on as you go, things often go wonky anyway, and you end up
with a turd. While this sweater might not be my style through and
through (I'm clashy more than classy), I'm really happy with how it came
out.
Plus it's warm! Warmth is one of the biggest
motivators for making my own sweaters. Vegan sweaters are SO HARD to
find, and then often they're from sweatshops, not my style or fit me
weird. Some things must be taken into your own hands, plus this saves
me from shopping. Shopping sucks.

I made this dress, too! Last year just before Vida Vegan, 'cuz I wanted something cute to wear to the gala! It's Colette Patterns "Rooibos" designed by my masterful friend Sarai. Sorry it's so hidden in these pictures, but the pattern's a complete gem! I've made about ten of them in the last year alone.

So super cute! I love how crafty you are! I ought to spend more time doing the same.
ReplyDeletethanks! i craft a lot, because it keeps me sane.
DeleteBoth the sweater and the dress are fabulous. Looking forward to reading about the gigantic vintage yarn stash.
ReplyDeletethank you, tara!
DeleteI love it. That's my favorite color and I think it really suits you. Are you going to Vida Vegan this year? I'm going (we still need to do our flight/hotel but we'll do it soon) so hopefully we'll meet!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm going! I'm actually presenting two workshops and a gameshow! If I'm running around with my head cut off, please say hi to me anyway!

Oh my! Busy bee! Will do!
DeleteAlso I just wanted to add that it's pretty impressive that you knit sweaters.
ReplyDeleteAnd I meant to add, thank you!
DeleteVery cute! And also, the siding on your house is the same as my house growing up! All sorts of happy memories flooded in when I saw that picture. :)
ReplyDeleteI think we might have a loose shingle in the backyard, I could send you,if that would be nice. :-)

Yum, vegan, Vee!!! And, that is a seriously gorgeous sweater. I want your boots.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amy! Aren't those boots a bit too bright for you? I would love to see you wear them! Kim reminds me how 90s I look when I wear them.
DeleteOh, my gosh! Check you out! I'm so impressed with all of your creations. That sweater is gorgeous, and I love how the buttons are off to the side instead of down the center. I also really like how you can button all of them or just a few for different looks. I hope it doesn't shrink on you. Right now the length looks perfect to me. That dress is so cute! I'd love to see more of it. You're absolutely right on the warmth (or lack thereof) of vegan sweaters. Plus, not only are most of them not that warm, they fall apart in a year. By the following winter they're thin and pilling.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cadry! Do you knit? This was a super easy party to be speedy on, I think when I finish the other sweaters I've got going, I'll revisit this in some interesting color combo.

I love how you have carefully obscured your house number with tiny secret words. xo

DeleteWhat a gorgeous sweater! I've had that pattern on my Ravelry to-do list for awhile now, but I probably won't get around to it until summer. Do you think it'll knit up well in cotton? I've had too many bad experiences with acrylic to go down that road, it's been relegated to amigurumi projects, things small enough I won't curse/cry when I frog them, and dog sweaters for Nina's furry robot dog she received over the holidays.
ReplyDeleteI've had many issues with plant fibers stretching out of shape in sweaters, so I'd be worried to recommend this in cotton. The collar especially might get floppy.
DeleteYou are an inspiration on so many levels, Kittee. Sweater is Kittee-licious and it *looks* like it fits you perfectly even though you wish it were longer. You have inspired me to post my quick crochet cowl recipe today instead of another boring salad recipe. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Dynise, you are always so nice to me!

Your style has so much power!

DeleteI saw this and got my sewing machine out. There are two shirts here waiting for alterations that I just keep putting off. Thanks for the inspiration! The sweater is super cute and now I next want to go yarn shopping.
ReplyDeleteYay!!!! Make and wear, make and wear, make and wear!
DeleteVery cute, and I love those Docs!
ReplyDeleteThanks Becky!
DeleteThat sweater is so beautiful! If you decide you want to make them for sale I would buy one (I like to dress clashy too but I have to try for more classy at work and share your frustration on finding good vegan sweaters).
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll be selling handknit sweaters anytime soon, because they are SO MUCH WORK. But thanks so much for your kind words.

I am sorry, I don't know why google is making me "unknown", I hate that...but I can't figure out how to fix it.
ReplyDeleteI am living vicariously through your incredible craftiness. My mother scotch taped my Halloween outfits.I have followed suit.
ReplyDeleteWhere does one find the Kittee Bee line?
