Stop Pulling out the Stops.

Welcome to Vegan MoFo 2012!  I'll be here posting my heart out throughout the month and also handling a few XGFX cookbook giveaways over at Vegan Mofo Headquarters.  No theme this year (my 6th MoFo BTW!), I can only promise my usual crazy and at least a few good reviews.

I went to a pot-lucky pie party over the weekend! MmmmM pie!
For potlucks, I often think about what I want to bring for a few days, then the day of the party,  I just fly by my balls and wing it.  I pretty much can't help but do this, since I'm sorta addicted to what I call "potluck adrenaline," y'know the challenge of trying to impress a potluck crowd.  Pulling out the stops and all that.

Sometimes this works out to be awesome, my dish is a darling of the party, and I go home feeling loved and popular.  Other times, this technique blows up in my face, my dish is just a stinker, and no one comments on my Facebook wall for two weeks.

I should probably seek therapy for this behavior, since I know this is why people often avoid potlucks.  Too many stinkers and not enough stops.
For this pie potluck, I started drafting plans immediately.

❤ I wanted Mac 'n' Cheesie.
❤ I wanted savory and layers.
❤ I wanted individual mini pies.

I also knew I wanted a layer of sweet potatoes, but where to put them?
I decided to punch little circles out of parboiled sweet potato slices and use them as a bottom crust.  Mostly I was afraid my beloved M.A.C. might dry up on the bottom, and I figured they'd make a good layer of tasty and colorful insulation.

Please do not tell me these look like fried eggs.
Tomorrow, I'll tell you what happened next and give you my M.A.C recipe du jour.  I'd rather keep you in suspense for a little while and let you consider the possibilities.

    1. OMGosh! Have you never been to one? They can be awesome if there's enough savory, but if it's all sweets it hurts you in the goiter, if you know what I mean.

  6. Life has been a giant mac n' cheesie party at my house lately - my daughter is addicted to anything with nutch in it -- and not just so she can be the preachy B12 know-it-all in her kindergarten class.

I love the idea of mini pies - I wonder if there's a layer of greens in there...? Guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out!

  13. you. are. the. best, kittee. i can't wait to see what happens next. the suspense is gawd-awsome.

i also need to seek potluck therapy. It must be 1-on-1, b/c if it was a support group, that would totally backfire because i would want to bring a dish, and I would aim for understatedly extraordinary as usual.
