Six Years a MoFo.

I've been participating in Vegan MoFo since its inception in 2007, so I thought it'd be neat to show you my favorite posts from each year.

Penelope Kake 2007
This was for Patient Penelope's birthday party, I'd made her one back in 2005, so this was a long time coming.  The kids almost hurt me trying to attack the cake, it was all I could do to get away with both hands intact.

Candy Sushi 2008, Futomaki in My Mouth.
This might be my all time favorite post, I wrote it on Halloween and it involved blood, brains and sushi.

Rainbow Mackerel Nigiri from the same post.  Eye candy, indeed.
I sure wish I could eat Swedish Fish these days, but apparently, modified food starch is in all the cool candy.

N1H1 Cupcakes, 2009.
These cupcakes were for Christina's zombie birthday party.  I swear on my good name those were supposed to be bloody zombie appendages, and not the dirty thing you're thinking they look like.

Pumpkin Bagels, 2010, and very new socks.
This picture should go into my baby album under "Kittee's First Steps."  These were my first xgfx bagels, and I made up the recipe.

I dunno, I sorta thought the 2011 Zine Museum was a pretty cool theme.
This has been my most prolific MoFo yet, and I'll be back at least another time before the month is up.

  1. Wow, this is so cool to see! That's really neat that you've been involved in MoFo since the beginning. I'd love to hear about what changes you've noticed over the years, trends, ups and downs... You have a unique vantage point! I wish I'd gotten involved earlier since it's one of my favorite events of the year!

I enjoyed seeing highlights from past years. All of that sushi is so colorful & fun!

    1. Thanks, Cadry.
I'd say the big changes have been:
      1. Global participation
      2. Sheer numbers (you can see the numbers for yourself here:
      2012 http://www.veganmofo.com/blogroll/
2010-2011 have been archived, so I can't link to them, but 2010 was our biggest year, we had close to 800 participants.

      3. There are more volunteers to help these days.
      4. Vegan MoFo homebase with round ups and giveaways.

I'd also say that participants seem to be a lot more organized now. Folks plan themes, organize giveaways and make plans ahead. In the first few years, I think folks posted more casually.

Let me know if you want more info!

  6. Looks like the theme that ties all your highlights together is "be colorful." Seeing them all arranged like this is really fun. I think it would be great if everyone did a roundup of their own (favorite) posts.

  8. oh kittee, do you know what's cool? I remember EACH AND EVERY ONE of these posts. Truly though, your candy sushis are one of mankind's greatest achievements. Just the other day I was raving about those candy sushis with a friend... fondly remembering just how perfect and creative and amazing they were. I'm so sorry that Swedish Fish are on your no-no list. That really stinks. I don't eat them often, but I think about them all the time. There is a little store right by my house that I have to drive by every day and they have a huge bulk bin full of Swedish Fish. It sort of tortures me, because I always want to stop and buy some, and I always have to resist. Great post!

    1. You are the best, Amey-Bub. You must be tormented thinking about Swedish fish ALL THE TIME? Musty must have loved your honeymoon!

Help me think of candy I can use for more sushi that has no modified food starch! It's in all the vegan gummy style treats and crushed up lollies won't work!

But next time we get together, wanna make some? Even if I don't eat it, the fun is really in the making and not in the eating.

      Love you.

  13. Amazing stuff Kittee! The cake is fantastic and the candy sushi is suck a cute idea! I can't believe you've been doing MOFO for that long! xx

  14. Holy moly! You've knocked my non-rainbow (but monkey and banana) socks off yet again. It's not wonder you almost didn't survive the stampede towards the cake. I would have cut someone for that candy sushi.

  15. Yes, yes I remember the sushi. All this and a visit to the zine museum! I had a friend over last night and we both were grieving over the loss of Swedish Fish. (we have been over sugar for a long while)Great look back into the vibrant sanctum of Kittee Bee. I gave you a shoutout on my blog the other day.
