Bagel Bounty

Back off, this is my bodacious bagel bounty.
I'm pretty pleased with my kitchen right now, 'cuz it's currently stocked full with xgfx bagels. It's a veritable bagel bounty down in there.

These bagels were also from Laurie Sadowski's Allergy-Free Chef Bakes Bread.  The review will be complete next week!
Really good ones, too! I was raised on bagels and to me, the best way to eat them is toasted and spread with cream cheese, then topped with a scant bit of red onion and super fresh tomatoes (these were from our garden) and sprinkled with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Super heavenly to the max, if you ask me.

Looks so good!
As soon as I post this, I'm heading downstairs to make one for breakfast!

  1. Oh I love bagels, too--just the way you eat them. I also like to sprinke them generously with black pepper.

Hopefully I will be doing a kitchen tour soon, too, because my tile is being grouted as I write. Wheeeeee!

  2. This is one of my favorite things to eat! Can I tell you a secret? I like to top mine with tons of raw stinky shallots instead. It tastes amazing with the tofutti.

  3. I tried my own bagels last year--for VeganMoFo, as a matter of fact--and couldn't believe how fantastic they were. I'm inspired. Doing it today!

I'm a no-toaster for fresh bagels; toasting can definitely bring new life to a day-old.

  4. I have that book and I made these as well. Yours look a bit more plump than mine. They were delicious! I made a raw cream cheese to go with it. I can't wait to read your review of the book!

  5. Mmm, those xgfx bagels look rockin! I love the versions (gf & non-) of yours that I've tried and if you endorse these ones, then, darn, gotta get my mitts on the book!

  6. Those are the most luscious looking tomatoes I've seen in a while, and I'm not one to describe tomatoes as luscious, so that's saying something. Stunning bagels!

  7. I'm so glad you found a good recipe for xgfx bagels because I think that would be one of the hardest breads to give up. I love love bagles. I just found a new shop this weekend which was exciting because good bagels in Texas are hard to find.

  8. Making bagels is so much work, but they're so yummy! I love the sesame seeds on top. Unlike you, I am very displeased with my kitchen right now. I broke a glass measuring cup which EXPLODED all over the kitchen, and then I proceeded to make some almond butter in only to fudge that up too when I stuck a silicone spatula in there while the blender was running (genious). The tip of the spatula broke into pieces and all the little plastic bits that broke off were blended into the almond butter. So I broke a glass measuring cup, ruined my almond butter, and destroyed my favorite spatula. Maybe it's not my kitchen's fault, but I'm still very displeased with it!

  9. I've always wanted to make my own bagels, but I've always been a little intimidated. After looking how yummy these look I think I'm going to give it a try this weekend!

  10. Those look like actual, real, genuine bagels. And topped exactly right except that I like my cream cheese to have either green onions or chives mixed in. I've made bagels but never GF ones. You should try the pizza crust, too.

  12. Bagels are my absolute favorite! I like them toasted and then schmeared with vegan cream cheese, topped with fresh tomatoes and basil. Sprinkle on a touch of salt and freshly cracked black pepper and you've got a breakfast fit for a queen!

  15. I love bagels so much, but I've never tried making them before. Honestly, I'm a little intimidated (& lazy - there're 3 great bagel shops a stone's throw away!). But, the thought of my kitchen being full of freshly-made, tasty bagels is enough to make me wanna try. Those look fantastic!

  16. I went through a real bagel phase for a while... but lately I haven't been making them. We had a whole bunch of bagels left over after our wedding, so I'm slowly eating those ones (they're all tucked away in the freezer). So happy for you that you found a great xgfx bagel recipe!!!!!!

  17. You probably know that I am a huge bread addict and gluten slave. I would never have guessed those were gluten-free. (Yeah, I guess you hear that about as often as "Where do you get your protein?") I need to impress my gluten-free friends with these.

  20. BAGELS! One of the two things I miss most about being xgfx. Or being supposed to be xgfx. Anyway. Poppy, sesame, everything, onion, or garlic bagel. With cream cheese, tomato, salt. Best thing ever.

  21. Gluten-free bagels!?!?! The xgfx fun just don't stop.
