xgfx Ethiopian Zine is Imminent!

I didn't know it was possible to cook so much Ethiopian food you start to get sick of it, but here at Fort Berns-Kerns we sure are pushing it to the edge. To clarify, I don't think I could ever get sick of EATING this yummy cuisine, but I'm sure getting tired of the durn kitchen!

Chickpea Fish, soon to be floating in a pool of spicy berbere sauce-->Ye'shimbra Asa W'et.

But I'm not here to complain, no! I want to report in with the good news, I'm currently finishing up a 60+ page zine that is completely 100% vegan, gluten-free and all about Ethiopian recipes, info and advice on how to make your own. Quickly following this release, will be a second xgfx zine filled with more even recipes including a huge Vietnamese chapter I think is especially delicious. As soon as things become more finalized, I'll take some preview pics to give you an idea about what's going on. I am really excited to push these babies out of the nest and into the world!

Black eyed pea balls and okra in a yummy spicy sauce-->Bamia Besiga W'et, complete with Injera Fakeouts.

I've also been busy organizing a really special event, taking place this Saturday June 4th at the Hollywood Theatre, here in Portland, OR.
The Florestine Collection is a 31 minute film all about an amazing pile of hand stitched dresses my dear friend Helen HIll found in a rainy-wet pile one Mardi Gras morning in New Orleans, LA. The dresses are truly amazing and she was inspired to create an animated film all about them. She received a Rockefeller grant to make this film, but was sadly and tragically killed in 2007. Her husband Paul recently completed her amazing film, and it's on a little N. American tour, which we are so lucky to be able to host. Along with the film, we're also showing a bunch of other shorts from friends and local filmmakers and including a vegan bake-sale to benefit the Wee Pigs Sanctuary in Columbia, S. Carolina, where Rosie the potbellied pig now lives. If you're local and you'd like more information about this film, the other shorts we will be showing and the bake-sale, please go to the Facebook event here. Please come if you can!
