Besides all the fun, the secret shot of tequila I stole helped too, but next time I might bring along a homemade Hurricane for even more inspiration. I hope you'll try these little bundles, they really are tasty with crunchy little points, the way a samosa is supposed to be. Without all the deep-frying too! Not that I'm adverse to the occasional oil plunge, but it's nice to be healthy, too.
And, have you seen this?

If you click on it, it'll bring you to a brand new page full of other folks that also carry on as gluten-free vegans. This site is just a tiny part of a bigger project I'm working on with Jessy from happyveganface and Allyson from Manifest Vegan. We're aiming to take over the world with tapioca papers, corn meal, blog posts and some sort of recipe dance party. Keep a lookout!

Such a cool video and recipe! I haven't cooked with rice paper yet but I'd love to try those.
ReplyDeleteI just watched the video. It's great =)
ReplyDeleteI really want to try it.
You are authoritative and adorable! Thank you for sharing your xgfx samosa technique. My husband has a wheat intolerance (that he staunchly refuses to acknowledge); so I've been slowly switching us over to a xgfx diet. I'm looking forward to your upcoming zine and to the further development of the xgfx vegan community resource.
ReplyDeleteKittee, you are too fucking cute! And so are your samosas. God, that sounds dirty. You know what I mean!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! Somehow your voice and presence are different than I imagined they would be, but I like you all the same. Thanks for letting the world know about baking rice/tapioca wrappers!
ReplyDeleteHaven't checked this blog in awhile - I'm so glad to see you're back! Just wanted to share that I'm attempting my first vegan king kake with your recipe this year! (yes I live in NOLA too!)
ReplyDeleteI know you're rocking xgfx - did you see that the FFVK blog has a xgfx king cake cookie recipe? Word. You rock lady :)
I know what I'm making this weekend! Those look fantastic. And you are so cute! I was already planning on making your Whoopie Pies from Papa Tofu this weekend, so it will be a big ol' Kittee Berns weekend at my house.
ReplyDeleteI love you and your mad cooking skills! We should make samosas together soon!!!
ReplyDeleteKITTEE!! You are wonderful in front of the camera. For all of you who don't know Kittee in person, this is HER. She will lead you on the journey & make it fun & delicious. And let me tell you, she knows how to make yummy Indian food. Shazam!
ReplyDeleteYou are so cute! I love this so much and the samosas look awesome!

Love the recipe. Do they freeze well?
ReplyDeleteholy crap you're adorable!! and this is an amazing idea for samosas! can't wait to try.
ReplyDeleteI need to try these! My mouth was watering when they came out of the oven. What a good solution to the pastry crust for Samosas. Kittee you did a great job!!
ReplyDeletewonderful video!! I also do that thing where I scoop lentils or potatoes or whatever back into the baghar pan to get all that great flavor!! :D
ReplyDeleteWow this video is awesome! I made something very similar (the concept was the same, the filling different) a few months back but used rice paper wraps and fried the rolls in a cast iron skillet with coconut oil. I don't have any experience with tapioca wrappers and have to go search some out. Also, I didn't realize you could bake the rice paper wraps and have it come out crispy so now I have to try that too! Thanks.
