Hopeful for Sugar Skulls

mofogloralbanner
Every October, I pour over the internet looking for sugar skull recipes without meringue powder. I still haven't found one. This year, I remembered the box of Angel Food vegan meringue cookie mix I've been saving, so I plunged forth and purchased a mold. It wasn't too hard, since there's an awesome alter/Dia de los Muertos shop on Alberta--they had all sorts of molds-- for chocolates, too.

I need to wait for a dry day, but we'll see what happens! I also splurged on a calavera shaped cookie cutter, and I might even try to XgfX my Pan de Muertos recipe.

Here's hopin'!

  3. I was just wishing I could find a mold for sugar skulls. Of course, here in Saudi Arabia it would be seen as idolatrous so I won't ever find them, but I can hope right? Have fun with yours!

  4. I am soooo hoping you have good results with the skulls! I found a recipe for a confection called Beans of the Dead which I intend to veganify in coming days - probably next week.

  5. Last year I was experimenting with agar agar in sugar. It sets up well. Try it if you have some around.

  12. Hey! That's so awesome. I live in the US and Mexico over the year (I'm from Mexico. Hola!) and "El dia de los muertos" is very popular, it's awesome that you are making a sugar skull. Oh and "El pan de los muertos" sells like crazy here.

I want a primal strip!!!! Porfavor!!!

  14. Last October the postman delivered a sugar skull kit just like that to my house, and I was soooo excited, cause I thought someone had sent it to me. But then I realized that I had opened a package that was meant for the person two houses down. So, I had to trudge to my unfriendly neighbor's house and give it up.

It was a terrible dia de los muertos disappointment, but a primal strip would help ease the pain.
