Katie from Don't Eat off the Sidewalk, invited me to host this week's VeganMofo: Iron Chef Challenge.

The secret ingredient is: sushi! And, if you're a stickler for tradition, then for you my special little friend, the secret ingredients are rice and seaweed! However, you're also free to interpret sushi in non-traditional ways as well--since we're all loosey-goosey down here in the Gulf Coast. So the only rule is: make something that resembles sushi, or deconstruct your beloved sushi into another form, like robots or something.

You have all weekend to accomplish this task, I'm planning to scrape together the roundup on Monday. If you plan to participate, please post a comment to this entry with a link to your masterpiece, so I can be sure to include it.

To see a variety of sushi, click on this chart, it'll get bigger so you can read it.

This sounds like fun!
Maybe I can get motivated and do this. My sushi still resembles play-doh projects, but it tastes great!
Thanks for a great pick. I'm watching some anime for inspiration.
Yeahhh sushi!
Kittee's in charge! Wooooooo-wooo!
I have to say, it's been so long since I've made sushi, that I kinda just want to make sushi and not be crazy. Is that ok? I'm gonna think on it, though.
love,
Michelle
How fun! Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! Don't count me in though, I am a self proclaimed sushi idiot. Sad, I know.
I've not eaten a lot of sushi, but what I have had has been kick-ass. I'd like to eat more. The chart is very helpful for a beginner like me. Love the descriptions!
I may give this a bash - though it will be sushi-not-as-we-know-it, I suspect...
count me in!
sushi is so awesome... i'm worried i'll get all traditional b/c i'll just want to eat up some tasty goodness.
I hope I can manage to get my poop in a group to participate!
Hi Kittee,
This idea certainly would be a challenge for me, I have only eaten sushi once and it was close to ten years ago. I didn't like it very much so I never bothered to learn to make it myself.
So, I have a question for you (or anyone). Where would I go to find seaweed? Is that something I can find in my regular grocery store or Whole Foods? Or do I need to go to a specialty store of some sort?
Hopefully if I can find some seaweed I will be brave enough to give it a shot.
Thank you for coordinating the challenge this week.
hi zoey!
you can find nori seaweed at Whole Foods, or you can find a more inexpensive sample at a local japanese or east asian market.
